Steel Market Update Flat Rolled Price Assessments
Written by John Packard
When reviewing our flat rolled price assessments it is important to note that our opinion is the range is more important than the average. Our index is nothing more than the average of our high and low. Our SMU Price Momentum Indicator which is currently at “Lower” provides the trend we see in our price evaluations.
This past week our range on base thickness hot rolled coil was $560 to $600 per ton ($28.00/cwt-$30.00/cwt) with an average of $580 per ton ($29.00/cwt) fob mill, east of the Rockies.
