Precoat Purchases Steelscape Fairfield, AL Coil Coating Assets

    Written by John Packard

Precoat Metals is purchasing the coil coating assets of the Steelscape Fairfield, AL facility. There are no immediate plans to reopen the plant as the company already has a facility located a few miles away in Hueytown, AL.

The Steelscape facility consisted of a single paint line which was reported (by sources outside of Precoat) to have 6,000-7,000 tons per month capacity.

Sequa, the parent company of Precoat, provided Steel Market Update with the following statement:

Precoat Metals, a division of Sequa Corporation, has entered into an agreement with Steelscape, LLC to purchase the assets related to their Fairfield, AL facility. This agreement follows Steelscape’s decision to divest of the business. The asset purchase in no way impacts the Precoat Metals facility in Hueytown, AL which has been in operation since 2007 and currently employs 61 salaried and hourly personnel.
