SMU Comparison Price Indices: Firm to Higher

Flat rolled steel prices continue to be firm to strengthening according to the steel indices followed by Steel Market Update. Benchmark hot rolled coil hovered around $670 per ton on all the indexes with the exception of Platts which moved their number up $5 per ton to $680 per ton.
Steel Orbis did not see any change in flat rolled steel pricing from their perspective while SMU picked up $5 to $15 per ton price adjustments based on our survey analysis and personal contacts with steel buyers. Our SMU Steel Price Momentum Indicator continues to point toward higher prices in the next 30 days.
