US Steel Mills Considering Dumping Suits on Coated Steel?
Written by John Packard
The rumor mill has been buzzing for a number of months about the potential for flat rolled steel dumping suits on galvanized and Galvalume steels. The focus of attention seems to be on China, India, Taiwan and South Korea as being the major offenders. However, Steel Market Update, which has a long background in coated steels both domestically and foreign, has done a quick analysis of the import data and below are our findings.
Dumping suits by the U.S. producing steel mills are generally filed when the prices are perceived to be below the cost to produce the product or when foreign governments are believed to be subsidizing the cost of production thus putting the U.S. producing steel mills at a competitive disadvantage in their own country. The concern now is there is a surge – or tital wave of imports coming into the U.S. on coated steels at this time.
