    Active Oil and Gas Rigs: US Increases, Canada Decreases

    According to Baker Hughes data from December 5th, 2014, the U.S rig count for this week is 1,920 rigs exploring for or developing oil or natural gas. This count is an increase of 3 rigs when compared to last week, with oil rigs up 3 to 1,575 rigs, gas rigs unchanged at 344 rigs, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 1 rig. Compared to last year the 1,920 count is an increase of 145 rigs, with oil rigs up by 178, gas rigs down by 31, and miscellaneous rigs down by 2.

    The Canadian rig count decreased by 16 to 422 rigs this week, with oil rigs down 17 to 212 rigs and gas rigs up 1 to 210 rigs. Compared to last year the 422 count is an increase of 20 rigs, with oil rigs down by 18 and gas rigs up by 38. International rigs increased by 16 to 1,324 rigs for the month of November, an increase of 13 rigs from the same month one year ago. For a history of both the US and Canadian rig count click here.
