    Active Oil and Gas Rigs: US Decreases, Canada Increases

    According to Baker Hughes data from December 12th, 2014, the U.S rig count for this week is 1,893 rigs exploring for or developing oil or natural gas. This count is a decrease of 27 rigs when compared to last week, with oil rigs down 29 to 1,546 rigs, gas rigs up 2 to 346 rigs, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 1 rig. Compared to last year the 1,893 count is an increase of 111 rigs, with oil rigs up by 135, gas rigs down by 23, and miscellaneous rigs down by 1.

    The Canadian rig count increased by 9 to 431 rigs this week, with oil rigs up 3 to 215 rigs and gas rigs up 6 to 216 rigs. Compared to last year the 431 count is an increase of 5 rigs, with oil rigs down by 40 and gas rigs up by 45. International rigs increased by 16 to 1,324 rigs for the month of November, an increase of 13 rigs from the same month one year ago. For a history of both the US and Canadian rig count click here.
