Weekly Raw Steel Production at Highest Level Since August 2014

For the week ending January 9, 2015, the American Iron & Steel Institute (AISI) estimated that the U.S. steel industry produced 1,899,000 net tons (NT) of raw steel, a 2.3 percent increase over the previous week and a 4.1 percent increase over the same week one year ago. The estimated capacity utilization rate is 79.0 percent, up from 77.2 percent last week and up from 75.8 percent last year.
This is the highest production level seen since the week ending August 30, 2014 when tonnage production was at 1,913,000 tons. This is the highest capacity utilization figure seen since the week ending August 23, 2014 when the capacity utilization rate was at 80.3 percent.
