AIIS Sees Continued Decline in Steel Imports Due to Falling Oil Prices
Written by Sandy Williams
The American Institute for International Steel (AIIS) reports steel imports declined for the second consecutive month in December. Despite the month over month reduction, steel imports were 44.4 percent higher than December 2013. AIIS says falling oil prices may support a continued downward trend due to reduced demand for OCTG and line pipe. The full press release from AIIS on December 2014 imports follows:
Falls Church, VA. February 5, 2015. Steel imports declined slightly in December, marking the second straight monthly decrease. Imports fell to 3.62 million net tons in December, 2 percent lower than in November. This followed an 18.2 percent drop the previous month. December imports were still 44.4 percent higher than they were a year earlier, though.
