    Raw Steel Production Rises After Falling for 10 Consecutive Weeks

    For the week ending December 5, 2015, the American Iron & Steel Institute (AISI) estimated the U.S. steel industry produced 1,553,000 net tons of raw steel, a 4.4 percent increase over the previous week but a 14.3 percent decrease over the same week one year ago. The estimated capacity utilization rate is 65.0 percent, up from 62.2 percent last week but down from 75.3 percent this time last year.

    This is the first week the weekly raw steel estimated has increased over the previous week since the week ending September 26, 2015 when 1,735,000 tons were produced at a capacity utilization rate of 72.6 percent.
