Service Center Intake, Shipments and Inventory through January 2016

Based on Steel Market Update (SMU) analysis of the recently released MSCI service center inventory and shipment data, total service center carbon steel shipments increased by 264,500 tons in January to 2.909 million tons. Shipping days at 20, were down by two from December. On a tons per day basis (t/d) shipments increased from 120,200 tons in December to 145,400 tons in January. In the seven years since 2009 January shipments on average have been up by 21.3 percent from December, this year shipments were up by 21.0 percent.
