Final Thoughts
Written by John Packard
I am working on an article about the difficulties manufacturing companies face when trying to recoup a portion (or all) of the flat rolled steel price increases from their customers. This morning I spoke with a manufacturing entity in the building materials segment of the industry who reported their industry has taken prices up by 5 to 10 percent. However, their customers are fighting the increases, partially because they do not understand what has been happening in our market.
In this particular case the executive i was speaking with asked if it is OK for their company to use our pricing data and to reference our website as a good source to help explain what has been occurring in the flat rolled steel markets. This is something we actually encourage. One of the original concepts behind the Steel Market Update publication was to assist the industry with “quality” and “timely” market intelligence. You are welcome to use us as a source and you are more than welcome to suggest to your customers that they visit our website and take a trial (or better yet, join) of our newsletter.
