SMU Price Ranges & Indices: Some Slippage but Nothing Radical
Written by John Packard
The hot rolled announcement has been made and the market is sifting through the results in order to figure out whether the results are good or bad for the steel industry. Of course, the answer to that question depends on what your end motivation is. Lower prices are good for manufacturing but bad for the steel mills.
We will wait to pass judgement and in the meantime take a look at what is happening with steel prices this week. Buyers have been expecting lower offers for a number of weeks and have been hard pressed to find them. We recorded some modest price reductions but nothing that should shake up the industry or cause steel buyers to rush out and buy more steel to restock the shelves.
