    Active Gas & Oil Rig Counts for US and Canada

    According to Baker Hughes data from August 26, 2016, the U.S rig count for the week was 489 rigs exploring for or developing oil or natural gas. This is down 2 rigs compared to last week, with oil rigs unchanged at 406 rigs, gas rigs down 2 to 81 rigs, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 2 rigs. Compared to this time last year, the 489 count is down 388 rigs, with oil rigs down 269, gas rigs down 121, and miscellaneous rigs up 2.

    The Canadian rig count increased by 25 to 146 rigs this past week, with oil rigs up 19 to 84 rigs, gas rigs up 6 to 62 rigs, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 0 rigs. Compared to last year the 146 count is a decrease of 50 rigs, with oil rigs down 4, gas rigs down 46, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged. International rigs increased by 11 to 938 rigs for the month of July, a decrease of 180 rigs from the same month one year ago.
