    Rig Counts Continue to Rise in Both US and Canada

    According to Baker Hughes data from September 30, 2016, the U.S rig count for the week was 522 rigs exploring for or developing oil or natural gas. This is up 11 rigs compared to last week, with oil rigs up 7 to 425 rigs, gas rigs up 4 to 96 rigs, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 1 rig. Compared to this time last year, the 522 count is down 287 rigs, with oil rigs down 189, gas rigs down 99, and miscellaneous rigs up 1.

    The Canadian rig count increased by 24 to 162 rigs this past week, with oil rigs up 7 to 84 rigs, gas rigs up 17 to 78 rigs, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 0 rigs. Compared to last year the 162 count is a decrease of 17 rigs, with oil rigs up 14, gas rigs down 31, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged. International rigs increased by 1 to 937 rigs for the month of August, a decrease of 200 rigs from the same month one year ago.
