    Active Gas & Oil Rig Counts YOY Gap Narrowing

    According to Baker Hughes data from December 2, 2016, the U.S rig count for the week was 597 rigs exploring for or developing oil or natural gas. This is up 4 rigs compared to last week, with oil rigs up 3 to 477 rigs, gas rigs up 1 to 119 rigs, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 1 rig. Compared to this time last year, the 597 count is down 140 rigs, with oil rigs down 68, gas rigs down 73, and miscellaneous rigs up 1.

    The Canadian rig count increased by 26 to 200 rigs this past week, with oil rigs up 6 to 100 rigs, gas rigs up 20 to 98 rigs, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged at 2 rigs. Compared to last year the 200 count is up 23 rigs, with oil rigs up 23, gas rigs down 2, and miscellaneous rigs up 2. International rigs decreased by 14 to 920 rigs for the month of October, a decrease of 191 rigs from the same month one year ago.
