Fatality at US Steel Granite City Works

A US Steel worker was killed in an incident at Granite City Works on Sunday morning. The incident occurred in the rail yard around 10:00 am, said company spokesperson Erin DiPietro.

No details were revealed concerning the nature of the incident and the name of the worker has not been released.

Said DiPietro, “An investigation into the incident is underway, and we will work closely with the United Steelworkers and relevant government agencies throughout the process. We have also activated our Employee Assistance Program to offer their services to the employee’s family and coworkers.

“No further details regarding the incident are available at this time. Our deepest sympathies are with the employee’s family and his coworkers.”
