Weekly Raw Steel Production Back Above 1.75 Million Tons

For the week ending May 27, 2017, the American Iron & Steel Institute (AISI) estimated the U.S. steel industry produced 1,753,000 net tons of raw steel, a 0.7 percent increase over the previous week and a 1.2 percent increase over the revised rate from the same week one year ago. The estimated capacity utilization rate for steel production is 75.2 percent, up from 74.7 percent last week and up from 74.1 percent this time last year.
Estimated total raw steel produced for 2017 year to date (YTD) is now reported to be 36,418,000 tons, up 2.9 percent from the 35,375,000 tons produced during the same period in 2016. The average capacity utilization rate for 2017 YTD is estimated to be 74.4 percent, up from 72.1 for 2016 YTD.
