CSI, UPI Start 2018 with $30 Price Hikes
Written by Tim Triplett
Starting the New Year with a new price, California Steel Industries (CSI) and USS-POSCO Industries (UPI) announced $30 per ton price increases today, Jan. 2.
In a letter to customers, CSI stated it is increasing transaction prices on hot rolled, hot rolled pickled and oiled, cold rolled and galvanized flat roll by $30 per ton, effective immediately. CSI is now taking orders for shipment in the first two weeks of February.
Likewise, UPI announced that it was raising base prices for hot rolled P&O, cold rolled and galvanized sheet by a minimum of $30.00 per net ton. Both mills reserve the right to requote any unconfirmed orders. Mill extras will continue to apply.
CSI and UPI were among several flat roll mills that announced a $30 per ton increase in mid-December. This latest announcement, following so closely on the previous price hike, suggests the mills are seeing some success in collecting higher spot steel prices.
