Active Gas & Oil Rig Counts Down in U.S. and Canada

The U.S. active rotary rig count, an indicator of oil country tubular goods demand, decreased this week, according to oilfield services company Baker Hughes. The number of active U.S. rigs fell by 4 to 1,047, with oil rigs down 4 and gas rigs unchanged. Compared to this time last year, the 1,047 count is up 69 rigs, with oil rigs up 54 and gas rigs up 15. The Canadian rig count fell by 12 to 212 rigs, with oil rigs down 8 and gas rigs down 4. Compared to last year, the 212 count is down 94 rigs, with oil rigs down 65 and gas rigs down 29. See the second graph below for a history of active Canadian rig counts.
