AHMSA Moves Forward with Coating Plant

Mexican steel producer, Altos Hornos de Mexico, S.A.B. de C.V. (AHMSA) has reached an agreement with South Korea’s Paco Engineering to build Mexico’s first coated galvanized steel sheet plant. The new $20 million plant in Monclova will be able to process 90,000 tons of cold rolled sheet per year.
“The painted sheet plant is one more step of AHMSA in the development program of steels with high added value and at the same time it will allow to replace imports,” said AHMSA General Director Luis Zamudio Miechielsen.
The investment complements an agreement signed with Korean company POSCO, which plans to galvanize cold rolled sheets, produced by AHMSA, at its plant located in Altamira, Tamaulipas.
