    Active Gas & Oil Rig Counts in June

    The U.S. active rotary rig count, an indicator of oil country tubular goods demand, decreased this week, according to oilfield services company Baker Hughes. The number of active U.S. rigs fell by 6 to 969, with oil rigs down 1 and gas rigs down 5. Compared to this time last year, the 969 count is down 90 rigs, with oil rigs down 75, gas rigs down 13, and miscellaneous rigs down 2.     The Canadian rig count rose by 4 to 107 rigs, with oil rigs up 10 and gas rigs down 6. Compared to last year, the 107 count is down 32 rigs, with oil rigs down 18 and gas rigs down 14. See the second graph below for a history of active Canadian rig counts.
