    Active Gas & Oil Rig Counts Steady Last Week

    The U.S. active rotary rig count, an indicator of oil country tubular goods demand, remained steady this week, according to oilfield services company Baker Hughes. The number of active U.S. rigs remained the same at 967, with oil rigs up 4, gas rigs down 4, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged. Compared to this time last year, the 967 count is down 80 rigs, with oil rigs down 65, gas rigs down 14, and miscellaneous rigs down 1.     The Canadian rig count rose by 5 to 124 rigs, with oil rigs up 4 and gas rigs up 1. Compared to last year, the 124 count is down 48 rigs, with oil rigs down 33 and gas rigs down 15. See the second graph below for a history of active Canadian rig counts.
