Leibowitz on Trade: Trump Announces New China Tariffs

    Written by Sandy Williams

Trade attorney and Steel Market Update contributor Lewis Leibowitz offers the following update on events in Washington:

In a tweet today, President Trump announced new tariffs on essentially all the $300 billion in imports from China not already covered by the Section 301 tariffs. The tariff of 10 percent will take effect Sept. 1.

I am looking into several issues concerning the new tariffs and will add detail as it becomes available.

    Correction

Editor’s note: In Lewis Leibowitz’s commentary on Tuesday, it was incorrectly reported that U.S. Steel had announced a reopening of the Homestead Works. In fact, U.S. Steel announced a billion dollar renovation of the Edgar Thomson plant at the Mon Valley Works. SMU regrets the error.
