    Number of Active Drill Rigs Declines Again

    The U.S. active rotary rig count, an indicator of oil country tubular goods demand, declined this week, according to oilfield services company Baker Hughes. The number of active U.S. rigs fell by 6 to 898, with oil rigs down 4, gas rigs down 2, and miscellaneous rigs unchanged. Compared to this time last year, the 898 count is down 150 rigs, with oil rigs down 122, gas rigs down 26, and miscellaneous rigs down 2.     The Canadian rig count also declined this week, down by 3 to 147 rigs, with oil rigs down 3 and gas rigs unchanged. Compared to last year, the 147 count is down 57 rigs, with oil rigs down 31 and gas rigs down 26. See the second graph below for a history of active Canadian rig counts.
