Mill Capacity Utilization Up to 81.7 Percent

Raw steel output by U.S. mills increased by nearly a full percentage point in the week ending Nov. 2, the third increase in as many weeks, taking the average mill utilization up to 81.7 percent of capacity. Production totaled 1,888,000 net tons, up 1.2 percent from the previous week and up 0.1 percent compared with the same week last year, reported the American Iron and Steel Institute.
Adjusted year-to-date production through Nov. 2 totaled 81,599,000 net tons for the year at an average mill utilization of 80.3 percent–up 2.5 percent from 2018 when the year-to-date utilization rate was 77.5 percent.
