Weekly Mill Capacity Utilization Stays Above 80 Percent

Raw steel output by U.S. mills dipped again in the week ending Nov. 23, but stayed above the 80 percent mark. Production totaled 1,861,000 net tons at a capability utilization rate of 80.4 percent, down 0.8 percent from the previous week and down 2.2 percent compared with the same week last year, reported the American Iron and Steel Institute.
Adjusted year-to-date production through Nov. 23 totaled 87,198,000 net tons at an average mill utilization of 80.3 percent–up 2.2 percent from 2018 when the year-to-date utilization rate was 78.1 percent.
