U.S. Raw Steel Production Up in All Five Regions

Raw steel production increased in all five regions of the country in the week ending Feb. 29, totaling 1,923,000 net tons, up 1.2 percent from the prior week and raising the mills to a healthy average utilization rate of 82.5 percent. The current week’s production represents a 0.3 percent increase from the same period last year, reported the American Iron and Steel Institute.
Adjusted year-to-date production through Feb. 29 totaled 16,350,000 net tons at a utilization rate of 81.8 percent. That’s up 0.8 percent from production in the same period last year when the average utilization rate was 81.3 percent.
