AISI: Steel Import Permits Down in August

Steel import permit applications for August totaled 1,394,000 net tons—a 30.5 percent decrease from the 2,006,000 permit tons recorded in July and a 48.4 percent decrease from the July final imports total of 2,703,000, reported the American Iron and Steel Institute, based on the Commerce Department’s most recent Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) data.
Import permit tonnage for finished steel in August was 1,231,000, down 10.8 percent from the final imports total of 1,380,000 in July.
