    Marginal Gain for Weekly Steel Production

    Weekly raw steel production by U.S. mills totaled 1,725,000 net tons in the week ending Jan. 30, resuming a positive move after a small dip the week prior. Production was up 0.5 percent from the week before when the total was 1,717,000 net tons. The mill utilization rate was 76.1 percent, up from 75.7 percent week on week, yet down 9.7 percent compared to the same week in 2020 when mill utilization was 82.4 percent.

    Adjusted year-to-date production through Jan. 30 totaled 7,360,000 net tons, at an average utilization rate of 75.9 percent. That’s down 9.7 percent from the same period last year then the utilization rate was 82.4 percent and production was 8,149,000 net tons, AISI said.
