Weekly Steel Production Down 1.2 Percent

Weekly raw steel production by U.S. mills totaled 1,705,000 net tons in the week ending Feb. 6, 2021, a decrease of 1.2 percent compared with the week prior when production was 1,725,000 net tons. Raw steel production in the early going of 2021 has fluctuated week on week. The average mill utilization rate dipped to 75.2 percent, compared with 76.1 percent the week before, and was down 7.5 percent year on year.
Adjusted year-to-date production through Feb. 6 was 9,065,000 net tons, at an average utilization rate of 75.8 percent. That’s down 9.3 percent from the same period last year then the utilization rate was 82.2 percent and production was 9,993,000 net tons, AISI said.
