Fed's Beige Book Tells Tale of Moderate Economic Improvement

Economic activity grew modestly in the U.S. from January to mid-February, reports the Federal Reserve in its latest Beige Book. The vaccine rollout has boosted confidence that business conditions will improve over the next 6-12 months.
The leisure and hospitality sector continues to be impacted by COVID-19 restrictions with only slight improvement reported by some districts in travel and tourism activity. Reports on consumer spending and auto sales were mixed. Despite continued supply-chain disruptions, manufacturing activity increased moderately during the period.
