    USS Fixes Pipe, Resumes Output at Edgar Thomson

    U.S. Steel has repaired a broken pipe that led to a brief outage at its Edgar Thomson Plant in Braddock, Pa., company officials said.

    And both of the mill’s blast furnaces are back online, a U.S. Steel spokeswoman told Steel Market Update on Thursday, April 8.

    “We do not expect any impact on customer deliveries,” a company spokesman said.

    A burst water main on April 6 resulted in the Braddock mill temporarily halting operations.

    Edgar Thomson, which is part of U.S. Steel’s Mon Valley Works, has two blast furnaces, the No. 1, which has annual capacity of 1.09 million tons, and the No. 3, which sports capacity of 1 million tons per year, according to the Association for Iron and Steel Technology’s 2021 directory of iron and steel plants.
