Nucor Moves Castrip Business to Arkansas after Idling Indiana Mill
Written by Michael Cowden
Nucor has idled its Castrip® mill in Crawfordsville, Ind., and consolidated its remaining Castrip® business at its mill in Blytheville, Ark., a company spokeswoman confirmed.
The Indiana mill was idled in 2020, and the Arkansas Castrip® operations “will continue to operate on a limited basis as we conclude our commitments to our customers,” she said.
Castrip® lines have capacity of approximately 500,000 tons per year, according to Castrip LLC, which markets and licenses the intellectual property related to the thin-slab casting technology.
Castrip LLC – a joint venture between Nucor, Australian steelmaker BlueScope Steel, and Japanese engineering and machinery firm IHI Corp. – was formed in 2000. Nucor was the first steelmaker to license the technology, according to the company’s website.
