SSAB, Evraz Follow Nucor and Raise Plate Prices

At least two U.S. plate mills – SSAB Americas and Evraz North America – have followed Nucor in raising plate prices.
SSAB has increased prices by $85 per ton (Canadian $105 per ton) for commercial, non-quenched-and-tempered (Q&T) product and by $170 per ton (C$215 per ton) for Q&T material.
“These increases are to be applied to all new commercial stock orders from the mills and cut-to-length lines as well as (to) all new non-contract production orders for October,” the company said in communications to customers dated Wednesday, Aug. 25.
Evraz North America announced a similar increase: at least $85 per ton – effective immediately – for all carbon and high-strength low-alloy plate as well as for hot-rolled coil. The steelmaker said it would also increase prices for normalized and Q&T products by at least $165 per ton.
“We reserve the right to re-quote any offers that have not been confirmed,” the company said in a letter to customers on Wednesday.
The moves by SSAB Americas and Evraz come after Nucor last Friday kicked off the latest round of plate price hikes.
