Evraz NA Hikes Plate Prices, Ups Ante by $40/ton on Q&T
Written by Michael Cowden
Evraz North America (NA) has followed other domestic mills in raising prices for steel plate.
The increases are effective immediately for all new orders, the Chicago-based steelmaker, a subsidiary of London-based Evraz Plc, said in a letter to customers dated Monday, Sept. 27.
Evraz NA is increasing transactions by at least $80 per ton ($4 per cwt) for all carbon and high-strength low-alloy plate as well as for hot-rolled coil.
The increase for normalized and quenched-and-tempered products is a steeper $240 per ton ($12 per cwt), the company said in the letter.
The price hike announced by Evraz NA broadly follows those rolled out last week by Mobile, Ala.-based SSAB Americas and Charlotte, N.C.-based Nucor. But Evraz upped the ante on Q&T by $40 per ton versus the $200-per-ton increase announced by its domestic competitors.
Plate prices stand at $1,740 per ton ($87 per cwt), down $5 per ton from a week ago but up $70 per ton from $1,670 per ton last month, according to SMU’s interactive price tool. SMU will next update its plate prices on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
